Who are we?

Our mission is simple: to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to faithfully administer His Word and Sacraments. We are dedicated to serving God's children in Palestine, TX, and the surrounding area by offering God's means of grace (the Word and Sacraments) which:

1. Impart the forgiveness of sins
2. Create, nurture, and sustain our faith
3. Guide and sanctify us, so that our lives reflect the glory of Christ

What does it mean to be Lutheran? Why not just Christian?

As Confessional Lutherans, we are Christians. In fact, we boldly assert and confess that as Confessional Lutherans, we possess the Christian faith in its most pure form, as we follow the principle of Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone), looking to God's Word as our sole infallible authority on matters of faith (whereas some Christian groups allow tradition or their own reasoning to stand above God's Word.)

But unlike some who misunderstand the principle of Sola Scriptura, we also strive to maintain continuity with the historic Christian Church. We acknowledge that Jesus Christ has been building His Church for nearly two millennia, and we are grateful to be part of this vast lineage of faithful believers.

He did not give us the Bible so that each new generation of Christians could "start over", disregarding what the Christians who came before them believed and practiced. Therefore we honor the rich traditions that have shaped the Church throughout the ages, but we rigorously evaluate these beliefs and practices against the unerring Word of God. In doing so, we preserve what is scripturally sound while reforming aspects that diverge from Scripture.
